For a unique experience consider holding your function on a riverboat. The Waimarie is New Zealand's last authentic paddle steamer and there are daily cruises on this 100-year-old vessel which was salvaged from a muddy grave and restored to its former glory.

In 2004 Wanganui's dramatic landscape became the setting for the historic adventure movie River Queen which was set in the turbulent New Zealand wars of the 1860s.
